The Sacred History of Narayan Sarovar
According to Hindu mythology, when severe drought plagued the region centuries ago, sages prayed fervently to Lord Vishnu. Moved by their devotion, Vishnu touched the earth with his divine toe, causing holy water from the sacred lake of heaven to spring forth, forming Narayan Sarovar. Renowned Vaishnavite philosopher Vallabhacharya visited this sacred spot, establishing a seat (Baithakji) here. The existing fortified stone temple complex was commissioned in the 18th century by the royal queen Mahakunwar of Kutch.
